Dear Owners and Property Managers:

As many of you know, Cherokee Metropolitan District implemented a new sign-up policy January 1, 2018 whereby owners and property managers were asked to activate water and wastewater service in their names even though their tenants were moving into or living in the homes.

These policy revisions are slowing the timely process for renters to receive and pay their bills, double payments are accidentally being made by both parties, and tenants are experiencing delivery concerns with their postal service. Although unpredicted, the quick change and implementation in policy has compelled property owners and management companies to scramble and make immediate changes to their own processes; and in the meantime, many of you have struggled with this transition.  

You have spoken, and we have listened. Effective immediately the original policy of tenancy sign-ups will be reinstated. If a renter is living in your home and you wish to have the account in their name, please ask them to contact our office to sign up for service. Despite whose name is on the account, the District’s contractual relationship is, and always will be with the owner; any balances remaining on an inactive account, which could result in a debt, remains with the physical property to which the account is associated.  

A $150 deposit will be required by all renters who sign up for service. They will also be asked to provide current contact information for the landlord or property management company. If the home is under management, our office will be contacting their office to obtain up-to-date phone numbers for the owner.
